The Best Weaver of the Year 2010

Khonesavanh originates from the outskirts of Vientiane, living with Phaeng Mai family since she was in her teens to study at a secondary school by the end of the late 1980s. She would weave after school hours and on weekends to earn pocket money to buy stationary for her studies. In the last year of high school she met a young man from Xaiyaboury province, Northern Laos, who was a mechanist and they fell in love. Khonsavanh did not continue to study and chose to marry her true love. Unfortunately, after the couple raised 2 lovely daughters her husband had an affair which causes them to separate. Khonesanvanh raised her children by herself from the income from her weaving at Phaeng Mai. In 2010 Khonesavanh was awarded as weaver of the year selected amongst 100 weavers of Phaeng Mai. Khonesavanh is very gentle at heart but very strong physically, she works hard to earn enough for the family of 3, and to provide education for her 2 daughters, who are studying at secondary school. Now Khonesavanh works tirelessly to save enough money to finish the building of her humble small house which is located not so far from Phaeng Mai workshop.
