Viengkham Nanthavongdouangsy is my long full name. Co-Founder, Head of Design, Production and Marketing of Phaeng Mai Gallery. I was born in to a weaving family from Samneua, Houaphanh Province. I graduated with Diploma in English from the Vientiane University in 1992, in 1999 I received a Certificate of Business Qualification from CCL Sydney, Australia. When I was 6 years old I sat at the loom and learnt how to weave from my mother. Now a master weaver of the floor loom process and tutor of weaving for local Lao practitioners and international trainees.
1998 I worked for UNESCO as an expert of Lao Weaving with demonstrations to Mozambique textile artisans.
My designs have won numerous international wards; 2004 and -2006 Seal of Excellence Asian Pacific Handicraft Development. Association. 2005 Good Design Award Japan.
Textiles books I have published include: “Weave on Our Great Grand Mother Loom”. Co-writer of the book “Legends in the Weaving”, book series Lao woven textile motifs “Weaving Cloths Weaving Naga”. and the latest edition 2006 “ Sinh and Lao Women”. this book has been translated and published in Japan 2008.
